Accommodation Africa introduces
Artwork by Bobby Bowers
MARS Gallery's latest group exhibition caught my eye this week, particularly the latest works from Bobby Bowers. The exhibition, titled The Room: Our Landscape Interior, investigates the shared connection to and from the interior landscape and our place within them. The exhibition features fourteen artists, and amongst them, Bowers' painting delighted me. His paintings present a documentary-style view of his immediate surroundings, capturing the mess and moments of everyday life - the dirty knife left on the edge of the sink (the universal symbol for "I can make another sandwich with this later"), dishwashing liquid bottles on window sills, and kitchen benches captured mid French-toast-making. I'm late to the party, but I'm a big fan of Bobby Bowers. The show is on until 27 September.
Thalamos collection by Christopher Boots
Renowned lighting designer Christopher Boots has launched his first object collection titled Thalamos. Consisting of five hand-cast brass pieces - a vase, a platter, a trinket box, an incense holder and an ashtray - the collection is inspired by the Greek word 'thalamus,' meaning "inner chamber" and is intended to nurture daily rituals and elevates one's own sanctuary - something we're all trying hard at these days. "Each piece is meticulously crafted to elevate moments of quiet contemplation," Boots says.
Kyoto Wood range by Jason Gibney Design Studio
Inspired by Japanese bathing traditions, each piece in the Kyoto Wood collection is crafted from aromatic timbers like Hinoki and Western Red Cedar, known for their calming natural oils. As steam rises, the wood releases a soothing scent, promoting tranquility and connection to nature. Designed to encourage mindfulness, the collection turns everyday bathing into a meditative experience and elevates your daily routine.
Dwell by Ross Gardam
Melbourne designer Ross Gardam had released his new modular lounge collection called Dwell. The collection is built on a sculptural rail system, allowing for flexibility and comfort. Each piece features clean lines and tailored upholstery and purposefully encourages connection and collaboration, as well as quiet focus - making it ideal for residential and commercial or public settings.
Maker & Son and Studio ALM collaboration
Furniture brand Maker&Son and Sydney design gallery Studio ALM unite for the first time in a bold collaboration that reimagines the iconic Maker&Son armchair. The new interchangeable Merino wool and hand-dyed cotton covers celebrate self expression, and Studio ALM drew inspiration from Jenny Kee, Linda Jackson and the vibrant graphics of Sonia Delaunay, channelling this spirit into striking textiles created with Swiss brand ZigZag Zurich. My favourite is the "Gate" bold grid pattern by Nathalie Du Pasquier and George Sowden, founders of the Memphis movement.
