On August 23, LATAM Brasil caused major travel disruptions, grounding over twenty flights and abandoning passengers across key cities in Argentina and Brazil. According to FlightAware data, affected airports include Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Vitória, Manaus, Florianópolis, Fortaleza, João Pessoa and Porto Alegre. Flights such as TAM8141 and TAM3565 were among those grounded, impacting numerous passengers. Delays were widespread, causing frustration for travellers. In this report, we will break down the affected flights, routes, airports and what impacted passengers can do now to resolve their travel issues amid these disruptions.

LATAM Brasil’s disruptions on Saturday affected a total of 25 cancellations and 62 delays. These issues impacted both domestic and international travel, leaving many passengers stranded at airports across South America.

LATAM Brasil’s cancellations affected various routes within South America. The cancellations included a mix of domestic and international flights, with key destinations such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Fortaleza and Manaus seeing multiple flights grounded. The following flights were particularly impacted:

This list is just a sample of the affected flights, with cancellations spanning multiple time slots from Friday night to Saturday afternoon, affecting various travel schedules and causing widespread confusion.

The routes impacted by the LATAM Brasil disruptions cover significant connections between major cities in Brazil and Argentina. The airline’s operations from key Brazilian airports, such as São Paulo-Guarulhos, São Paulo-Congonhas and Rio de Janeiro/Galeao, were heavily affected. Passengers travelling on routes connecting these cities with regional hubs in Brazil and Argentina faced cancellations.

From Buenos Aires (Argentina), multiple flights were grounded, notably the connection from Jorge Newbery (AEP) to São Paulo-Guarulhos Int’l (GRU). The direct connection between Argentina and Brazil, two major air travel hubs in South America, further intensified the ripple effect. In addition to cancellations, delays were widespread along routes between São Paulo, Fortaleza, Rio de Janeiro, Florianópolis and Porto Alegre.

Several domestic connections within Brazil, such as those between São Paulo-Congonhas and Goiabeiras (Vitória) and Salgado Filho Int’l (Porto Alegre) were also grounded, causing considerable disruption to business and leisure travellers alike.

In addition to cancellations, the delays were another key aspect of the disruption caused by LATAM Brasil. Many passengers on affected routes experienced significant waiting times. Delays were reported across multiple airports, with some passengers waiting for hours before receiving any updates about the status of their flights.

The flights that managed to depart often faced lengthy delays, compounding the frustration for travellers. Passengers flying from airports such as São Paulo-Congonhas, São Paulo-Guarulhos and Manaus were particularly affected, with wait times stretching into the morning and early afternoon.

Several major airports in Brazil and Argentina were affected by these disruptions. In Brazil, São Paulo-Congonhas (CGH), São Paulo-Guarulhos (GRU) and Rio de Janeiro/Galeao (GIG) were some of the worst-hit airports. These airports are significant hubs for domestic and international air traffic and the disruptions caused considerable bottlenecks at check-in counters, security lines and boarding gates.

Eduardo Gomes Int’l (MAO) in Manaus and Pinto Martins Int’l (FOR) in Fortaleza also experienced high volumes of delayed and canceled flights, adding to the chaos at these regional airports. Other affected airports included Hercilio Luz Int’l (FLN) in Florianópolis and Salgado Filho Int’l (POA) in Porto Alegre.

In Argentina, Jorge Newbery (AEP) in Buenos Aires was a focal point of cancellations, especially for flights bound for São Paulo. As LATAM Brasil is a significant carrier in the region, the grounding of multiple flights at these airports had a ripple effect on both domestic and international travel.

For passengers affected by LATAM Brasil’s flight cancellations and delays, there are a few steps to take.

These disruptions highlight the volatility in air travel and the importance of staying informed and prepared during such delays. Passengers are advised to keep track of their flight status and consider alternative plans in case of further delays or cancellations.

The travel disruptions caused by LATAM Brasil on August 23, including 25 cancellations and 62 delays, have left many passengers facing significant inconveniences. Affected airports across Argentina and Brazil saw widespread chaos, with flight schedules severely impacted. For those still dealing with the aftermath, staying updated on flight statuses through resources like FlightAware is crucial. While the situation was frustrating for many, understanding the disruptions and knowing the next steps can help ease some of the challenges. Passengers are encouraged to reach out to the airline directly for assistance with rebooking and potential compensation.
